Superfoods. Quinoa. Gluten-Free. Paleo. Vegan. What does it all mean? For some, these words identify a lifestyle choice. While, for others, they are the parameters that dictate their lives because of disease. No matter what journey you are on to get healthy, I want to start with telling you that it doesn’t happen overnight. You won’t go to bed one night and the next day suddenly understand it all.
It’s a process to learn and adapt lifestyle changes. And if you’re doing it as a quick fix, then you’re probably doing it for the wrong reasons. Your body has so much to say to you and when you choose to listen to it and what it needs, you’ll learn more about it than you ever thought you could know.
The first place I’ll tell you to start is just by reading. We are so lucky to have such a plethora of information available to us. And helping you to find and understand that information is why I start Savee & Savory.
The second thing is to ask questions. You are your own best health advocate. You know what’s going on with you better than anyone else. Take the time to ask the questions you need to ask in order to understand what’s going on with your body.
The third thing is to study yourself and how you interact with the world around you. Write down what you eat and note how you feel afterwards. There may be a dormant food sensitive hanging around that you haven’t taken the time to see because you just inhale what you eat rather than paying attention to your body. Just because you have it available to eat, doesn’t mean that you should eat it.
Finally, here are a few resources to jump start your health journey.
On Netflix: Fat Sick & Nearly Dead (a must see documentary)
Books: Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman
Remember to have patience with yourself, it’s not going to be an overnight event. Take it one step at a time. You’re changing your life not going on a trend diet. But mostly, remember that you are capable of great things. You’ve got this!
