Barely Bread: A Paleo Bread Review

FOOD | 0

When it comes to foods, I feel like I try a lot of things. Like a make up junkie who hunts down the new Fenty Beauty launch, I try my best to get my hands on as many foods as I can. Seriously, I keep a list because you know, it’s me and I love a list. Some times, I can find food treasures online and throw them in my vitacost order. But occasionally and particularly in today’s example, I have to wait until I’m in a bigger city to snag things like Barely Bread.

So on my journey back from Birmingham a few months ago, I popped into a local health food shop with the sole purpose of getting this bread. As a girl on a heavily grain free diet, I wanted the option of a good avocado toast in my life again. I decided to try two the of available breads: a bagel & a sliced bread. And today, I’m sharing my full review on the paleo bread known as Barely Bread.

 Which products did I try?

I tried the Onion-Garlic-Sea bagel and the Sliced Loaf. There were a few others available but most of them had cinnamon which I try to avoid in my diet.

How does it taste?

If you’re looking for a true bread replacement, this probably isn’t the product. Because of the ingredients, its a very dense bread and can be a bit rubbery. Both my mom & I tried it and she wasn’t impressed. I didn’t mind it for sandwiches but it also didn’t blow me away.

What’s the price?

You’ll pay anywhere from $15-$20 per loaf. However, if you’re buying online*, they only seem to come in packs of loaves with the prices being a minimum of $100.

What’s the shipping like?

I haven’t found them too many places online. However you can purchase from both amazon & barely bread’s website. Amazon* offers prime shipping. Barely Bread charges flat rates depending on location which range from $15-$25. Currently, they are only available in the US.

Who are the products for?

Anyone looking for a paleo bread option. The bread is gluten, grain and soy free. However, it’s not vegan friendly. If you’re strict about not having grains, gluten, or refined sugar, this bread is probably for you.

Can I get them in stores?

Yes and it’s probably your best way to try just one loaf. There is a store locator on the barely bread website that helps you find the closest location to you.

Can I get a sample?

Doubtful but you could always ask your local health foods store.

Will I use them again?

I’m undecided here but I’m leaning more towards no.

Any else I need to know?

I’ll be honest and say I have a lot of thoughts about this product. I’ve been pro/conning this in my head for a while. So let me break it down for each. Pros- It’s a paleo bread option. There’s no hidden cane sugars or grains. The ingredient list is stellar and you would know everything on it. Cons – It’s expensive. And yes, I understand that GF products are expensive. But paying $18 for a loaf of bread seems a bit much to me. I’m also not a fan of the fact that it’s hard to get a hold of just one loaf. I don’t appreciate that someone would have to buy several loaves of a product they potentially may not enjoy.
