I go through seasons of reading. There are times where I am in a reading bubble. I want nothing more than to drink tea and embrace my inner reading nerd. It’s my hermit mode. And when I’m not in hermit mode, I’m typically watching a tv series from start to finish. I’ll still read but most of what I’m reading will be of the non-fiction & autobiography sorts. So if you’re like me and love to know what others are reading or just need a new book in your life, here are 5 books I’ve been enjoying recently.
My love for Anna developed when I discovered her podcast last year and it’s been going strong every since. Now I’ll admit that I’ve cheated a bit with this one because I’m listening to the audiobook. But so far I’m loving it. Anna’s stories are hilarious and her self narrated book gives every bit of her personality. I’ve always been a fan of listening to author read audiobooks for that reason. If you’re looking for a bit of humor and unqualified dating advice, I’d highly recommend giving this one a go. And if you want to try listening, audible* gives you free credits with a trial membership. Who doesn’t love free stuff?
In my journey towards building a cleaner skincare routine, I found Adina’s book again in my to be read pile. And it’s been just what I need to get a kick in the pants. Even the best of us get off track some times. Whether it’s diet or lifestyle choices, it doesn’t hurt to go back to basics and look at your game plan. Adina’s book has been great at helping me figure out what habits I’ve let sneak back in and how they may be affecting my never-ending hormonal acne battle. I’m currently working through a week long food journal that I’ll share soon. But skin cleanse has been a great reminder to pay closer attention to all the little habits that affect my skin & energy levels. I can’t wait to see what all I learn from putting her skills to use.
This may be the one fiction book I’ve finished recently but I really enjoyed it. I snagged it on a trip to Sam’s and read it in one weekend. It reminds me a bit of beauty & the beast with a more magical feel. A Court of Thorns & Roses is the first in the series. There are quite a few story twists and things I didn’t see coming. It’s not incredibly heavy so if you’re looking for a lighter, whimsical read, I’d recommend downloading the sample to check out. I just started the 2nd in the series but I’ll keep you posted.
Do cookbooks count as reading? I’m going to say they do. And while I’m spoiling a bit of an upcoming cookbook haul, I’m excited to share this one with you. We all know I’m a list gal and this cookbook has been on the must buy list for a while. Jessica’s philosophy is one of the more approachable ones I’ve encounter over the years. She acknowledges that making changes for healthy reasons, while awesome, can also suck. But the idea with one part plant is in the name. You have one meal a day that’s built around plants. It doesn’t matter the time or the meal but simply that plants are the dominating factor in your meal. If you’re looking to add more veggies into your diet or just need some new cooking inspo, be sure to check it out. I know it’s going to be dominating my meal planning ideas for the next few weeks for sure.
I’ll admit I didn’t find this one on my own. After seeing what felt like everyone reading it, I dropped in my amazon cart to snag on my next order. It’s quite large and a bit intimidating at first. But at least a fourth of the pages are reference notes for the text. I’ve got quite the stack of health books but I love how Dr. Greger breaks his down. In part one, each chapter is devoted to a disease. If you’re wanting to learn more about how not to die from breast cancer or heart disease, there is a chapter just for you. But part 2 is broken down into sections of food. From fruit to nuts to spices, this book covers all the essentials of creating and living a plant based life. I still have a chunk of reading left but if you’re looking to make health changes or just learn a bit more about specific issues, I’d highly recommend checking it out.
